This large bowl was woodturned from a single piece of fruitwood. The Latin name of Black Cherry is Prunus Serotina, which translates to “late to bloom”. Cherry is my favourite hardwood to work with- for it’s strong grain, fragrant smell, and rich warm colour. I started by rough cutting the piece to round on the bandsaw, then mounted it to the lathe, woodturned it to a shape of my desired style, and carefully sanded and finished. A split formed after it was turned, which I repaired with a Curly Hard Maple Butterfly inlay. It is finished with a food safe oil, with my logo laser imprinted on the bottom.
