Solid wood
On horizontal surfaces like tables, desks, countertops, credenzas, sideboards- solid wood is always recommended. This is simply because 10 years from now, it can be sanded and refinished- and look like new again.
Wood undergoes a lengthy process requiring specialized equipment to get it to a specific size. Additionally, due to seasonal wood movement, using solid wood requires more complicated joinery (connection) techniques. Sarah will be posting more information about wood movement in her blog in the next few weeks. Be sure to check back- or sign up for her newsletter below.
Particle Core
The woods listed above are also be available in veneer on a Particle Core substrate. Typically used in millwork, Particle Core is a sustainable, "dimensionally stable", and cost effective alternative to solid wood. Sarah uses premium grade, Made In Canada particle core, with a book-matched and very consistent appearance. Edges are always completed with a solid wood treatment, to protect panels from the dings and dents which can happen to the edges of furniture. This material choice is recommended on vertical surfaces, bookcases, and other low traffic areas.
Upholstery
Whether it's a headboard, a bench for your reading nook, or a booth style kitchen table- sometimes you need a cushion to make things more comfortable! Sarah will help you find the right foam, fabric, and style to make your interior perfect.
Danish Cord or Caning
Love the look, but not sure where to find it? Sarah also offers furniture with caned or corded seats and backs.

What Happens Next?
Once you have your material and design decided upon, you'll receive a quote. This price includes the cost of material, hardware, sandpaper, finishes, maintenance to machines, rent, and labour. Additional fee for delivery (usually $120 within the GTA) and assembly (depends on complexity) will be factored in. You will need to pay a 50% deposit in order to proceed with the project. You'll be told how long your piece will take to be made, and see some photographs of your project underway in the process. Prior to delivery, you'll be asked to compete the payment for your project. Once the piece has been paid in full, it can be delivered and assembled in your home. Sarah will inform you of any maintenance instructions- and the best cleaning products to use.
Scratches, dents, and chips can happen. Don't worry too much, there's always a way to fix or repair wooden furniture. If you're in need of refinishing or repair, Sarah's happy to help you make the piece look like new again.
